Vape & Cartridge Packaging

What Vape Cartridge Packaging Needs to Do

A vape cartridge is a glass tube filled with oil, with a metal mouthpiece and a ceramic heating element. It's breakable. If you ship a bare cartridge in a padded envelope, it arrives cracked. The packaging exists to prevent that, communicate compliance information, and look good enough to justify the price.

The CR tube is the first layer. It's a push-and-turn plastic tube that holds one cartridge. It's child-resistant, it's cheap, and it's what most dispensaries expect. But a bare CR tube on a shelf doesn't tell the customer anything. That's where the box comes in. A printed folding carton holds the tube, gives you room for branding, THC content, batch numbers, and government warnings. The box is where the brand lives.

Insert trays are for multi-packs. If you're selling a two-pack or five-pack of cartridges, a tray insert holds each tube in place. Without it, the tubes rattle, the boxes look cheap, and the customer opens it to find scratched tubes. We die-cut trays from recycled paperboard or molded pulp. The molded pulp looks premium and costs less than people think.

What I tell every vape brand is to not skimp on the box. The cartridge might be $40 retail. The tube costs you 15 cents. The box costs you 35 cents. The box is what the customer sees and remembers. It's the cheapest marketing you'll ever buy. Spend the extra dime on heavier cardstock and matte finish. It changes how the product feels in hand.

Questions

Everything you need to know.

What size CR tube fits a standard 510 cartridge?
A standard 510 cart with a 1ml capacity fits in a 19mm diameter CR tube, roughly 75mm to 85mm long depending on the mouthpiece. If you're using a longer CCELL cart or a custom mouthpiece, measure the full assembled length. We stock 19mm and 22mm diameters and can custom-size if your volume justifies it.
Can I get a printed box that holds two vape cartridges?
Yes. We make two-up and five-up folding cartons with die-cut tray inserts. The insert keeps each tube separated so they don't touch during shipping. You get full-color printing on the exterior and can print compliance text inside the lid if you need the space.
Do vape cartridges need tamper-evident packaging?
Many states require it. A shrink band around the box or a tamper-evident seal on the tube opening satisfies this. We can add perforated shrink bands to any tube or box order. The band breaks when opened, so the customer can see it's been tampered with.
What's the difference between a folding carton and a rigid box for vapes?
A folding carton is flat-shipped and assembled at your facility. It's lighter, cheaper, and what most vape brands use. A rigid box is pre-assembled, heavier, and feels premium. Rigid boxes cost 3 to 5 times more per unit. Unless you're selling luxury product, folding cartons are the better call.
