Concentrate Packaging

Concentrates Need the Right Container

Concentrates are where packaging gets technical. You're dealing with material that sticks to everything, degrades when exposed to air, and loses its terpene profile fast if the container isn't sealed right. A jar that works for flower won't work for live resin.

Glass is the standard for a reason. It's non-reactive, it doesn't absorb terpenes, and a customer can see the product through it. But glass alone isn't enough. The lid needs a polyethylene or PTFE liner that creates an airtight seal. If the lid leaks air, your terpenes are gone in a week. We've tested this. A properly sealed glass jar with a PTFE liner holds terpene profile for months. A cheap lid with a foam liner loses it in days.

Non-stick is the other piece. If you've ever tried to scrape wax out of a standard plastic container, you know the problem. Product sticks to the walls and you lose 10% of your yield. Silicone-lined containers solve this for some consistencies, but silicone can absorb terpenes over time. PTFE is better for long-term storage. For short-term retail, a PTFE-lined glass jar is what most top-shelf concentrate brands use.

The size matters too. A 5ml jar for a gram of badder looks right. A 9ml jar feels empty. Customers notice. We stock 1ml, 2ml, 5ml, 7ml, and 9ml sizes with custom-printed lids and optional shrink bands for tamper evidence.

Questions

Everything you need to know.

What's the best container for live resin?
A glass jar with a PTFE-lined lid. Live resin is terpene-heavy and those terpenes evaporate fast if the seal isn't airtight. PTFE creates a better seal than foam or silicone, and it won't absorb the terpenes the way silicone can. Keep it in a cool place and it'll hold.
Why do concentrates stick to some containers and not others?
It's about surface energy. Plastic has higher surface energy than PTFE or silicone, so sticky concentrates adhere to it. PTFE has one of the lowest surface energies of any material, which is why nothing sticks to it. If your product is sticking to the container, the liner is wrong.
Do concentrate jars need to be child resistant?
If they leave the dispensary with the customer, yes, in most states. We make CR concentrate jars with push-and-turn lids. The lid is CR-rated while the glass body is standard. You can also use a non-CR jar and bag it in a CR exit bag at point of sale, but that's an extra step the dispensary has to handle.
Can I print directly on a glass concentrate jar?
You can with screen printing, but most brands print the lid and apply a label to the jar body. Screen printing on glass is permanent but limited to a few colors and requires a higher minimum order. Labels are cheaper, faster, and give you full-color artwork.
