Why Flower Packaging Dominates

If you walk into any dispensary and count what's on the shelf, flower outsells everything else. That's been true for 30 years and it's not changing. So the packaging that holds flower, whether that's a stand-up mylar pouch or a 1-ounce glass jar, is the biggest category we run through the factory.

The reason is simple. Flower is bulky compared to a one-gram vape cart or a tin of mints. You need material that protects terpenes from light and oxygen, holds up during transport, and still looks good on a budtender's tray. Mylar gets used more than anything else because it's cheap, it seals well, and it takes custom printing beautifully. But glass still wins for premium flower where the customer wants to see the nugs before they buy.

Pop-top vials are the other big one. They're child-resistant by design, which is why medical markets love them. You squeeze the sides and the lid pops. Simple. No fiddly push-and-turn mechanism that breaks after two uses. We run hundreds of thousands of pop-tops a week for producers who want cheap and compliant.

The mistake I see most often is producers buying flower packaging that's too thick for their product. If you're selling an eighth, you don't need a bag rated for 2 ounces. It costs more, it feels bulky, and the customer knows it. Match the package to the product. That's what we help with when you request a quote.

Questions

Everything you need to know.

What's the difference between a mylar bag and a stand-up pouch?
Nothing, really. Mylar is the material. A stand-up pouch is the style. Most "mylar bags" people talk about are stand-up pouches made from mylar film. When we say mylar bag at CropPak, we're talking about a heat-sealable foil-lined pouch with a ziplock closure and tear notch. You can get them flat or with a bottom gusset so they stand up on a shelf.
Do my flower bags need to be child resistant?
In most legal markets, yes. If your product leaves the dispensary with the customer, it needs CR closure. That means the ziplock on a mylar bag needs to be CR-rated, or the bag goes inside a CR exit bag at point of sale. Check your state rules. We can tell you what we've seen work in your jurisdiction.
Can I get a custom-printed pop-top tube?
You can, but the print area is small and most producers skip it. Pop-tops are a volume product. You're buying them for the CR closure and the low per-unit cost, not for shelf appeal. If branding on the tube matters to you, we can print labels or sleeves instead.
What size glass jar do I need for an ounce of flower?
A 2-ounce jar. One ounce of flower varies in volume depending on density, but you want some headroom so the nugs don't get crushed when the lid goes on. We stock half-ounce, ounce, and two-ounce sizes with custom-printed lids.
