The Product

Premium retail format

Child resistant glass flower jars for premium retail. Glass is what top-shelf brands use when plastic isn't an option. CR lid mechanisms keep you compliant without killing the aesthetic.

Built for cannabis. Made factory-direct.

Why Glass for Flower

Plastic is practical. Glass is premium. There's no getting around it. When a customer picks up a glass jar, they feel quality before they read the label. The weight, the clarity, the cold touch. It signals craft product.

For flower specifically, glass has a real functional advantage. It's inert. It doesn't off-gas. It doesn't absorb terpenes. Plastic jars, even good ones, can slowly absorb volatile compounds over months. Glass doesn't. Your flower tastes exactly the way it did when you packed it.

CR Lid Mechanisms

Making a glass jar child resistant is harder than it sounds. You can't just squeeze glass. We use two approaches. First, a push-down-and-turn metal lid, similar to medicine bottles. The mechanism is in the lid, not the jar. It's certified and it works.

Second, a two-finger squeeze latch built into a plastic overcap. The glass jar sits inside a CR plastic shell. The shell provides the squeeze mechanism and the glass provides the barrier. This is the design premium brands want because the glass is visible but the CR function is there.

Both approaches pass 16 CFR 1700.20. Both are resealable. We provide certification documentation with every order.

Glass colors matter. Clear glass shows your product, which is great for display but lets in UV. Amber blocks UV but hides the flower. Black is dramatic but you can't see the product at all. We stock clear, amber, cobalt blue, and frosted. For long-term shelf display, amber or frosted is the right call. For immediate visual impact, clear wins.

Product Knowledge

Is This the Right Packaging for Your Product?

For premium brands, glass remains the undisputed gold standard for botanical preservation. Glass is entirely inert, meaning it will never leach chemicals or absorb terpenes. These jars use dense, food-grade borosilicate or soda-lime glass with PP lids featuring PE or PTFE inner liners. The two primary types are soda-lime (most common and cost-effective, providing excellent clarity and moderate chemical resistance, though susceptible to thermal shock) and borosilicate (contains boron trioxide for much lower coefficient of thermal expansion, making it highly resistant to temperature fluctuations and physical impact). Thick-walled glass constructions exceeding 60 mils are particularly favored to prevent shattering. To combat UV degradation of cannabinoids, manufacturers employ amber or violet tinted glass, or utilize an opaque matte-black painted coating achieving 100% UV light blocking. A glass jar paired with a PP push-and-turn lid (featuring an internal airtight liner) provides the ultimate defense against oxygen, moisture, and light, though it significantly increases shipping weights and landed costs.

Ideal For

  • ✓ Premium 3.5g flower
  • ✓ Rosin
  • ✓ Live resin
  • ✓ High-end concentrates

Not Ideal For

  • ✕ Extremely cost-sensitive budget products
  • ✕ Markets where glass breakage during transport is a severe logistical hazard

Material Specifications

ConstructionDense, food-grade Borosilicate Glass or Soda-Lime Glass; lids are Polypropylene (PP) with PE or PTFE inner liners
Thickness60 to 150+ mil wall thickness (approx 1.5mm to over 3.8mm) for thick-wall premium construction
Oxygen Barrier (OTR)0 cc/m2/day (absolute zero through glass walls)
Moisture Barrier (MVTR)0 g/m2/day (absolute zero through glass walls)
Light ProtectionVaries: clear glass provides none; amber/violet provides UV filtering; matte-black painted coating achieves 100% UV blocking
Odor BarrierComplete - glass is entirely inert and will never absorb terpenes or leach chemicals

Glass provides absolute zero OTR and MVTR through the walls - the ultimate barrier. Closure integrity depends on the lid liner, but generally provides a near-perfect hermetic seal. Unlike plastic alternatives, glass will never degrade, leach, or allow any oxygen or moisture transmission. The only limitation is shipping weight and breakage risk.

Compliance

ASTM Type I (Continuous Thread) - push-and-turn PP cap over glass threads passes 16 CFR 1700.20 protocolsCompliant with plain packaging requirements; amber or opaque coating meets opacity rulesMeets CR requirements in CA, CO, MI, NY, OR, WA, IL with certified push-and-turn lidFood-grade glass is inert and meets FDA food-contact standards

Minimum Order & Timeline

MOQ: 2,000 units for standard stock; 20,000 to 50,000 units for bespoke custom shapes or specialized UV coatings

Timeline: 30 days for production, plus extended freight times due to weight

Price Factors

  • High material cost
  • High shipping weight
  • Finishing techniques (matte black painting, silk-screen printing)
  • Glass type (borosilicate vs soda-lime)
  • Custom shapes

Why Factory Direct?

Glass is the most expensive packaging format due to material and shipping weight. Factory-direct sourcing eliminates 30-50% broker markup, which is especially significant given the high per-unit cost ($0.40-$1.20+) and heavy shipping expenses.

Questions

Everything you need to know.

Does the CR mechanism work on all glass jar sizes?
Yes. We test each size independently. The push-down-and-turn lid scales from 1 oz to 1 lb jars. The squeeze-latch overcap is available for 1 oz through 1/2 lb sizes. Above that, the push-turn lid is your option.
Which glass color protects flower best?
Amber. It blocks 99% of UV-A and UV-B light. Cobalt blue blocks about 60%. Clear blocks none. If your jars sit on a dispensary shelf under lights, amber preserves potency and terpenes. Clear is for short display windows only.
Can glass jars be custom printed or are they label-only?
We can do direct glass printing for runs above 5,000 units. Below that, labels are more cost-effective. Direct printing looks cleaner but the setup cost is higher. Most brands go with custom labels.
How do you handle shipping glass without breakage?
We pack glass jars in corrugated dividers with foam inserts. Breakage rate is under 0.5%. If you're shipping finished product to dispensaries, we recommend the same approach. Don't ship bare jars in padded mailers.
What materials are child resistant glass flower jars made from?
Dense, food-grade Borosilicate Glass or Soda-Lime Glass; lids are Polypropylene (PP) with PE or PTFE inner liners.
What products are child resistant glass flower jars best for?
Premium 3.5g flower, Rosin, Live resin, High-end concentrates.
What is the minimum order for child resistant glass flower jars?
MOQ: 2,000 units for standard stock; 20,000 to 50,000 units for bespoke custom shapes or specialized UV coatings. Production takes 30 days for production, plus extended freight times due to weight.
Is child resistant glass flower jars child-resistant certified?
ASTM Type I (Continuous Thread) - push-and-turn PP cap over glass threads passes 16 CFR 1700.20 protocols
Are child resistant glass flower jars FDA compliant?
Food-grade glass is inert and meets FDA food-contact standards
Do child resistant glass flower jars meet Health Canada requirements?
Compliant with plain packaging requirements; amber or opaque coating meets opacity rules
