Certified child resistant mylar bags that meet 16 CFR 1700.20 and pass CPSC protocol testing. Our CR zippers are resealable, certified, and built for dispensary shelves. If your bags aren't tested, you're not compliant.

Built for cannabis. Made factory-direct.

What Makes a Bag Child Resistant?

The CPSC doesn't mess around with 16 CFR 1700.20. To get CR certification, a bag goes through protocol testing where a panel of kids aged 42 to 51 months gets 10 minutes to open it. If 85% can't get in, it passes. Then seniors have to prove they can open it. We've watched brands get pulled from shelves because their bags weren't actually tested. We test every CR zipper configuration we sell.

The zipper is the heart of it. We use two styles: a push-and-turn mechanism that requires finger dexterity most young kids don't have yet, and a squeeze-pull style that needs coordinated pressure. Both reseal. Both passed. We don't sell single-use CR bags because dispensaries hate them and customers hate them. A resealable CR bag keeps your product fresh and keeps you legal.

Compliance Isn't Optional

Every state with legal cannabis has its own CR requirements, but they all point back to 16 CFR 1700.20 or ASTM D3475. Some states want a third-party lab report on file. Some want the certification number printed on the bag. We provide documentation with every order. If your inspector asks for proof, you'll have it.

We also track the CPSC certificate per production run. That means if there's ever a recall or audit, we can trace your bags back to the exact lot. Most suppliers can't do that because they're reselling blanks from three different factories. We're factory-direct, so we know where your bags came from and can prove it.

What we make

  • 16 CFR 1700.20 certified CR zippers with documentation
  • ASTM D3475 compliant options for states that require it
  • CPSC certificate tracking per production lot
  • Resealable CR designs rated for 200+ cycles

One honest, all-in price.

We work directly with a bench of factories - not as a broker. So we match you to the right one and bring back the best all-in price: packaging, printing, shipping, and any duties or tax - in one number with no middleman and no surprises.

Compliance standards we build to

Every product we make meets or exceeds the relevant regulatory standards. We provide the actual test certificates with every order, not just a claim on a website.

Product Knowledge

Is This the Right Packaging for Your Product?

Child-Resistant (CR) Mylar bags are engineered with complex two-step locking mechanisms to comply with single-use and lifetime-use CR requirements mandated by states like California and Colorado. These bags use PET/AL/PE or PET/VMPET/PE laminates combined with heavy-duty, food-grade polypropylene or polyethylene CR zippers that require simultaneous dual-actions to open. The certification of a child-resistant Mylar bag applies to the finished package as a holistic system - the substrate, the ink, the lamination, and the zipper combined. A manufacturer cannot simply buy a certified CR zipper and attach it to a weak 2-mil bag, as children will fail to open the zipper but successfully tear through the side walls with their teeth (a recorded metric in the CPSC testing protocol). Therefore, these bags require a minimum 4.3 to 5.0 mil thickness to maintain structural integrity during the 10-minute child testing panel. The closures rely on fine motor skills and simultaneous dual-actions (e.g., pinching a hidden tab while pulling apart the tracks), exploiting the developmental gap between children under five and adults.

Ideal For

  • ✓ Multi-serving edibles (gummies, chocolates)
  • ✓ Bulk flower requiring lifetime CR
  • ✓ Products requiring multiple openings and closings

Not Ideal For

  • ✕ Single-serving cheap products where the cost of the CR zipper outweighs the product margin

Material Specifications

The 16 CFR 1700.20 protocol tests 200 children aged 42-51 months. The package must prevent at least 85% from opening without demonstration and 80% after demonstration. Without minimum 4.3-5.0 mil thickness, children can tear through the bag walls with their teeth. Multi-serving products in CA and CO must remain child-resistant for the lifetime of the package.

Minimum Order & Timeline

MOQ: 10,000 to 20,000 units due to specialized tooling required to insert CR zipper tracks during manufacturing

Timeline: 15 to 20 business days (complex zippers require slower manufacturing speeds)

Price Factors

  • Patented CR zipper mechanism (highest cost factor)
  • Mil thickness
  • Foil quality (AL vs VMPET)
  • Print colors and finishes

Why Factory Direct?

The patented CR zipper mechanism is the highest cost factor making these bags significantly more expensive than standard tear-notch pouches. Factory-direct sourcing eliminates 30-50% broker markup on this premium component.

Questions

Everything you need to know.

How do I know the zipper is actually CPSC certified?
We provide the test report and certification number with your order. The zipper manufacturer runs the 1700.20 protocol, and we pass that documentation through to you. If your state requires a specific cert number on the bag itself, we can print it.
Can the CR zipper handle repeated opening without losing its seal?
Yes. Our CR zippers are rated for 200+ open-close cycles in lab testing. The mechanism doesn't wear out like a standard Ziploc does after 20 uses. Your customers will resealed it a dozen times and it'll still close tight.
What happens if a state inspector shows up and my bags don't have documentation?
You'll get a compliance violation, and depending on the state, that can mean fines or a product hold. We send the paperwork with every shipment so you're covered before the inspector arrives.
Do you offer CR bags that also meet ASTM D3475?
Yes. ASTM D3475 is the standard for CR packaging that isn't covered by 1700.20. Some states reference it specifically. We can supply bags certified to either standard depending on what your regulators want.
What materials are child resistant mylar bags made from?
